Terms of Service

Effective 13 October 2026

The short version. You must be 18 or over. Driftr shows friends roughly where you are, never exactly where, so don't rely on it for your safety. If you meet someone in person, that's your decision and your responsibility. We don't tolerate harassment, abuse or objectionable content. You can block and report anyone, and we act on reports. The full terms below are what actually apply.

1. About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Dan Skirrow, an independent developer based in England who builds and runs Driftr ("we", "us"). They cover your use of the Driftr app and the teamdriftr.com website (together, "Driftr"). By creating an account or using Driftr, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Driftr.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal information. It isn't part of these terms, but please read it, because it describes things these terms refer to.

You can contact us at support@teamdriftr.com.

2. Driftr is in beta

Driftr is currently a free, invitation-only beta. Features may change, break, or be removed, and we may reset or end the beta. We don't charge for Driftr. If that ever changes, we'll tell you first, and nothing will be charged without your agreement.

3. Who can use Driftr

4. Location is approximate

Driftr is designed so that friends never see your exact location. That also means the locations it shows are approximate:

Don't use Driftr for navigation, emergencies, or anything where your safety, or someone else's, depends on a location being accurate or up to date. In an emergency, contact the local emergency services.

5. Meeting people in person

Driftr helps friends notice when they're in the same area. Whether you meet up is entirely up to you and the other person, and we aren't involved in any meeting. In particular:

If someone makes you feel unsafe, block and report them in the app (see section 8). If you're in danger or a crime has been committed, contact the police.

6. Your content

"Your content" means anything you add to Driftr: your handle, display name, profile photo, Instagram handle, home and current city, messages, private notes about friends, and reports.

7. Zero tolerance for abuse and objectionable content

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. You must not use Driftr to:

8. Blocking, reporting and moderation

Blocking

You can block anyone from their profile in the app. The person you block isn't told. Once you block someone:

Blocking has limits. It can't undo anything the other person has already seen or saved, such as a screenshot. It also can't stop someone who creates a different account, although doing that to contact you breaks these terms and is grounds for removal. You can unblock someone in Settings, but your old chat won't come back.

Reporting

You can report a user from their profile in the app, choosing a reason and adding details. The person you report isn't told who reported them. When you report someone you've chatted with, a copy of your 20 most recent messages with them is kept privately as evidence for our review. That evidence is deleted automatically 90 days later. The Privacy Policy explains exactly what's shared with moderators.

What we do

We review reports and aim to act within 24 hours. We may remove content, warn a user, restrict their account, or permanently remove them and the content they've shared, whenever we reasonably believe they've broken these terms or put anyone at risk. We may do this without warning where we think it's needed to protect someone. We may also pass information to the police or other authorities where the law requires it, or where we believe someone is at risk of serious harm.

Messages on Driftr can only be exchanged between people who have both accepted each other as friends, so you control who can contact you in the app.

9. Notifications

With your permission, Driftr sends notifications about friend requests, messages, nearby friends and travel. You can turn each kind off in Settings, or turn them all off in your device settings. Notifications can be delayed or not delivered, so don't rely on them.

10. Other services

You can sign in with Google or Apple, and Driftr may link to other services such as Instagram or maps apps. Those services are run by other companies under their own terms and privacy policies, and we're not responsible for them.

11. Ending your use of Driftr

12. Our responsibility to you

Driftr is a free beta provided "as is". We'll provide it with reasonable care and skill, but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free, or that locations, distances or notifications will be accurate (see section 4).

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that can't be limited or excluded under the law of England and Wales. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.

Subject to that:

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when Driftr changes or the law does. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Driftr after a change takes effect, the new terms apply. If you don't agree with them, you can delete your account.

14. Apple and Google

If you got Driftr from Apple's App Store or TestFlight, or from Google Play, these terms are between you and us, not Apple or Google. We alone are responsible for Driftr and its content, for support, and for dealing with any claim about it, including claims that it doesn't meet a legal requirement or infringes someone's intellectual property. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Driftr. You must also follow the app store's own terms. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

15. General

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear any dispute about them. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts. If you live elsewhere, you keep any protection that the consumer law of your home country gives you and that can't be overridden by agreement.

If you have a problem with Driftr, please email support@teamdriftr.com first. Most issues can be sorted out that way.
